Carbon Fiber Laminate Uses in Column Structural Repair In Venezuela

For this project, the columns were tightly wrapped with CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) plates before the earthquake struck. No one can predict when an earthquake will occur, but there are steps that can be taken beforehand.

By the time I wrote this article, Venezuela had already experienced several earthquakes.

At approximately 6:00 PM local time on June 24, 2026, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck near Montalbán, Venezuela. Less than a minute later, a magnitude 7.5 earthquake hit the country. The magnitude of the first quake was shortly thereafter revised to 7.2. As of June 27, approximately 430 aftershocks ranging from mild to moderate intensity had occurred in the country.  This is the strongest "double earthquake" to hit Venezuela in 123 years—a sequence of powerful tremors measuring magnitude 7.2 and 7.5, with epicenters just 160 kilometers from Caracas and a focal depth of only 10 kilometers.

By June 28 (local time), the powerful quakes had resulted in 1,719 deaths and 5,034 injuries in Venezuela; 15,866 people were displaced, and 22,619 received treatment at medical facilities and field hospitals.

I hope everyone stays safe.
